Historic sites and small museums, of local, regional and national importance, are visitor destinations that provide an encounter with persons, events and places of the past.
Heritage Landscapes landscape reports, inventories, assessments, design and construction projects have sought to preserve, enrich and present these important places to the American public. For example, our cultural landscape report and preservation treatment plan for the Lincoln Cottage for the National Trust for Historic Preservation as members of the Hillier Architecture team, addresses a place where important events in the Lincoln presidency were enacted during the days of the Civil War. At the Edison National Historic Site in West Orange, NJ we aided FMG Architects in a National Park Service pre-design assessment of the historic potential of the Edison Laboratory landscape. At the Bush Holley Museum, a Connecticut Impressionist Painters site, we used art works and other historic documents to plan and carry out the recapture of historic landscape character to the Impressionists period, 1890s to 1920s. Each project addressing historic sites and small museums presents an opportunity to incorporate the landscape into the visit enriching the experience. |
