Heritage Landscapes has completed and is in process on planning and implementation projects addressing the preservation of historic campus and institution landscapes of note.
The public landscape of institutions, like the Camden Public Library, and campuses, like the grounds of Dumbarton Oaks, are often highly significant works of landscape design. The process of understanding, assessing and resolving issues facing these historic designed landscapes can be initiated by a desire for preservation while changes in use are anticipated, current needs are to be met or apparent degradation is to be addressed. These potentially controversial undertakings require us to proceed from a strong foundation in detailed research and existing conditions assessment through a transparent process of stakeholder and community engagement, toward consensus. |
